One of the open sea it the most famous Hellenic settlement in Croatia- the remains of the Greek colony of Issa. Issa’s artefacts have been deposited in the Archaeological Museum of Vis.
The most famous example is the bronze head of the Greek goddes Artemis who is the symbol of Vis. The Island is dotted with old churches and picturesque stone houses, while the modern panorama of its sheltered coves is filled with yachts and small boats, sailing enthusiasts and divers.
The authenticity of its towns and villages has been preserved, espacially in Komiza, where above the city the view extends to the open sea and to the distant Adriatic islands of Bisevo, Sveti Andrija and Palagruza.
