PATARA beach located near KAŞ and 75 km (47 miles) south of FETHIYE, is Turkey’s finest swimming spot, with Fine white sand. As ancient town of Patara with Roman ruins is also located nearby, Patara is a great place for one day trip or longer vacations.
The beach is 14.2 kms/9 miles long and child-friendly. It is backed by ancient ruins and swooping dunes – with no buildings visible. There is a cafe and loungers and umbrellas are available for rent. One can find no watersports or camping facilities here.
When you come over a wooden footbridge at the regular entrance the sight is everso impressive: Miles of sand and sea framed by green hills .. and no hotels or other buildings in the background.
In the entrance are a few huts as changing rooms and toilets and you have the beach with a place to eat, where umbrellas and sunbeds can be rented.
It is such a beautiful piece of nature and will hopefully remain so. Last but not least important, the preservation of the beach is not only important because tourists like it, but it is also important because it serves as a breeding ground for endangered turtles Carretta Carretta.
The beach is rated as the best beach in the world by The Sunday Times. However, when a strong wind often blows, there is quite a stir in the sea and inexperienced swimmers should then be careful.
You have the opportunity get low-key accommodation in nearby Patara town with beach commuter facility (or else prefer a long walk).
