Kalkan, Turkey.. More than Sun & Sea
Ocak 21, 2011 | Holiday Resorts in the Mediterranean
You can now visit Kalkan for much more than a “Sun and Sea” holiday..
The small Mediterranean coastal town of Kalkan has been likened to ‘the Italian Riviera minus the Posers’ by the Guardian newspaper. This is all too true as the town prides itself on the preservation of its distinctive Ottoman Greek architecture and the shimmering bay which looks out to the islands that appear to float on the still waters. Because of this it is said to have a unique atmosphere.
While many other Turkish towns’ main income are from other sources, Kalkan relies solely on tourists to make its living. This means the locals take great pride in their area so be prepared for a warm and welcoming reception that is rewarded to its visitors.
An Inspiring Stay
As it is the ‘duty’ of its locals to ensure you have a pleasant stay, the area has built up a strong following of returning visitors.
Traditional Mediterranean and Turkish food is the order of the day at most of the restaurants; a variety of fresh fish and local wines enjoyed after a long day on the golf course, or serene day scuba diving will let you settle into the evening.
Why not visit and take up painting for the day! Many visitors arrive almost exclusively for the wonderful sights, which no doubt inspires the creative streak.
The internet site called Jet2.com offers a number of cheap flights to Turkey
with both Dalaman and Bodrum ideal destinations to reach Kalkan.
