Enez has a history which goes back 8 thousand 500 years thus it brings a unique civilization heritage to modern days. The name Ainos which is present in historical sources and mythological legends, means “praise” in ancient languages.
The city of Ainos is also mentioned in Homer’s Illiad and it is said that the city was founded by prince Aineias, the son of Trojan Ankhises and Aphrodite. On the other hand, historian Herodotus states that the city was founded by people called Ailoles.
Famous geographer Strabo tells that Ainos was previously founded by Poltys, the legendary king of the Traks and was named Poltyobria
Today, it is a popular (crowded in summers) small town ideal for holiday-makers especially. It has an advantage of being rather close to Istanbul, which is a good reason for people to own a summer house in Enez and surroundings.
